Business Intelligence and Performance Management

Business Intelligence (BI) is a very broad category of software technology and applications that are used for integrating data, creating queries and reports for decision support, statistical and business analysis, forecasting and data mining to name a few.

The recent acquisitions by Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) vendors has greatly consolidated the market. I believe that the ERP vendors will have a lot of work to do to intergrate the purchases into their portfolios. However, decision makers should be cautious as the ERP vendors will claim to have everything but will fall far short on delivery as these vendors bought pure play BI companies that tout platforms but actually provide query and reporting tools and some specialized applications.
